USPS :: DMM Transformation Project

A team of graduate students from CMU’s School of Design were hired to work with the United States Postal Service on the USPS DMM Transformation Project. The goal of the project was to replace the 1000-plus-page manual of postal standards with a new set of easy-to-read and highly understandable documents, each targeted at a specific audience.

The first and only FDA-approved non-prescription cold sore medicine, Abreva is clinically proven to shorten healing time and the duration of symptoms. It is developed and marketed by GlaxoSmithKline. The web site we designed had two main goals for the first year—to educate about cold sores and inform cold sore sufferers about Abreva.

Giant Eagle Party Planner

Giant Eagle is the largest grocery retail chain in the Pittsburgh region, with over 200 locations. Giant Eagle hired Blattner Brunner to develop a “Party Planner” for its Internet web site. A strategic content plan had to be developed for unique party ideas, tips and tasks. We also had to design the ability to manage user accounts and to add and remove parties as the seasons change.

Sequoia is a new smokeless tobacco from the Pinkerton Tobacco Company. The brand’s target audience is young men that “work hard and play hard,” and who are confident being themselves. Federal regulations about how tobacco is marketed in the U.S. forced Blattner Brunner to adhere to very stringent policies while representing the non-conformist target audience.

Exalt is a tobacco product that is smokeless, spitless, and a cleaner alternative than smoking or chewing. The tag line “No Smoking? No Problem™” speaks to the product’s anytime/anywhere appeal. But because Exalt is a new form of tobacco, our job was to educate, engage, attract and convert a smoking audience to use Exalt when lighting up isn’t an option.
